Hail Damage Roof Claims in Texas: What to Document

After hail, look for changes you can document safely: debris, damaged gutters, a new ceiling stain, or visible shingle damage. These observations warrant an inspection, but they do not by themselves prove a covered roof loss.

Record What Changed

Photograph the property from safe locations and note when you first noticed the damage. Keep earlier roof photos and repair invoices. Avoid climbing onto the roof or disturbing damaged material to try to prove a claim.

Ask for a Roof Inspection

Check the Actual Policy

Do not assume an approved claim pays for every proposed item or leaves only the deductible to pay. Ask for the insurer's explanation in writing and compare it with the roofing proposal.
